IUCN conservation status

The powerful woodpecker (Campephilus pollens) is a species of bird in the family Picidae. It is found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. This little-known species is a large woodpecker, 33–38 cm (13–15 in) long, and is a close relative to the North American ivory-billed woodpecker.

Not much is known about Campephilus pollens' breeding habits; however, it has been concluded that hatching is asynchronous for this species.

Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist forests in the Andes. It is generally found at higher elevations than any other large woodpecker.
